Foreign Exchange Student….

You would think that after four months of living in this country, I wouldn’t get choked up over a miss communication. Yet, it shows that I came here without any Hasseneyan background and very little French. You know those movies where there is a foreign exchange student and the host parents think that they will be understood if they just repeat what they said. Slowly they get louder and louder like the poor kid is going to understand what they are saying if they just repeat themselves a lot. They are doing this without charades people! I’m thinking along the lines of 16 candles or something. That’s the first movie that comes to mind. Most of the time when parents act this way, they just look ridiculous. I finally realized how the exchange student feels today. There were these three teenage girls who came over to my room. We were talking for a while. They were looking through my photos again. I have this calendar that I’ve made from Shutterfly. They love it. They held it in their hands flipping through the months. They were interested in all the genes and hugging. They laughed at all the funny faces. Yet, they held it in their hands still when they were standing by the door and about to leave. I don’t let anybody leave my room with any of my possessions. When you don’t know where people live, you don’t want people to borrow your things. Plus, photos are important to me and I still had a few months left of 2008 to go before I didn’t need the calendar anymore. I kept telling them that I wanted the photos here that I didn’t understand where they were going, that I didn’t what them to take them with them, and they kept repeating what they were saying in Hasseneyan. I kept saying that I didn’t understand them. Anyway, long story short. I got upset. They left the photos in my room and said good bye. So, just so you know. Repeating yourself doesn’t always work. And, in the future when you have an exchange student, don’t go through their things. It’s rude.
